Fifty yards from the finishing line, mind separates from body

After all that back and forth about whether it is possible for mind and body to ever separate, here we are back at the start. From an athlete’s perspective I can really understand this statement. Conscious thought probably has to give way to muscle memory and every ounce of blood and energy has to go into moving limbs…….but as always, I think language simplifies and at the same time muddies the reality. I want to see new ways to describe this phenomenon that don’t reinforce the steretoypes…an athlete all brawn no brain, an academic or technician all brain, and pale imprisoned body……
