Apparently what he calls “Physicalism”, the opposite of “Dualism” has been shown to improve the way we treat out bodies. Those thinking in a dualist way were more likely to eat fat, sweet thing……those thinking in an embodied way more likely to take excercise and eat a salad!

I enjoyed the discussion underneath as well (first time I’ve bothered to read it…probably should do that more often).

Now I’m thinking again about what interests me…I think what’s most important is not so much how to design a TOOL that supports bodily awareness, but more how it is that we can get reflective practice to be integrated with such tools…..because without the reflection, the tool is nothing – it’s all about how we interpret the data. However we need to collect the data too and I suppose that’s how I’m justifying something that looks nice – that a user would want to engage with, that is user friendly. And by being engaging might also encourage frequent reflection? …I want something that engages like FB, but encourages reflection…well that’s harder…so that’s the bit that really needs to be looked at – the interface…..ugh those projects have been done before – discussion and debate tools. Horrible, surely there’s something better as inspiration? Blogs are a good start – but not much integrated…What’s on the iphone? I like the MIT’s meditation approach – meditation for study….could meditation be supported by the tool? Or is it just a distraction?

I don’t want to keep researching projects similar to mine because I will get sucked in and never make and lose my initial thread. I’ve been there with dockers dilemma. On the other hand I have to produce written work for my studies and I need to learn from existing work. Poss solution…read about similar only as needed. To solve immediate issues whilst I am prototyping. Then read more before creating the final solution. Tough though. I love prevaricating…

Not sure if I can type a coherent argument on an iPhone but here goes… Today I was reasoning with chili when something occurred to me. C at 4 years very often uses his body and behaviour to express an argument and communicate with me. I knew this before but had not fully acknowledged it. For example he threw his plate off the table at dinner time. Irrational for a grown up. Expected but considered mainly annoying ..a feature of a less developed mind in a young child. But of course he was saying something important. He was saying look at me. And He felt this was a reasonable argument… That we ought to look at him having spent so much time fussing over the baby. And in fact I agree. We love him and he wants some love that he can recognise. Attention. So many things that grown ups do to express love and affection are not enough for a young boy. You know I don’t think I’ve really got this in words properly. Might need a second go.
